The Al Irsyad Al Islamiyyah Organization (Jam’iyat Al Islah wal Irsyad al Islamiyyah) was established on September 6, 1914 (15 Syawwal 1332 H). This date refers to the establishment of the first Al Irsyad Al Islamiyyah Madrasah in Jakarta. Its legal recognition was only issued by the Dutch Colonial government on August 11, 1915.
The central figure in the establishment of Al Irsyad was Al ’Alamah Syeikh Ahmad Surkati Al Anshori, a great scholar from Mecca who originated from Sudan. After the establishment of the school in Jakarta, Syeikh Ahmad Surkati Al Anshori’s students began establishing schools in various regions. One of them founded the Al Irsyad Al Islamiyyah Purwokerto madrasah, equivalent to an elementary school, around 1932 AD.
The Al Irsyad Al Islamiyyah Purwokerto Madrasah, after independence, received government legalization in 1947 as an Ibtidaiyah Madrasah. In the following years, it gradually began establishing several other school units. To date, there are several school units, ranging from KB (Kindergarten), TK (Preschool), SD 01 (Elementary School 01), SD 02 (Elementary School 02), SMP (Junior High School), SMAIT (Integrated Science Senior High School), SMP Boarding, SMA Boarding, and MA Boarding.
